Sloppy Gear change

My car has a sloppy gear change, probably a fairly standard thing on a car thats nearly 10 year old.

Whats the best way to cure it?

I have seen a few things on short shift kits which would do the trick but is there something that can be done without fitting a short shift kit?

Just bought myself an eight year old Boxster and picking it up at the weekend. I drove a few around 10 years old and the gearchange was slick and tight in all of them. It would be coming from a 944 I suppose. I would suggest if it is getting sloppy and was once better, get the stock linkage adjusted and reconditioned before fitting any short shift kits. It would be wise to do so anyway just in case there is something failing. Then think short shift kits if it is still no good.

The gear change is cable operated - yours probably just need adjusting.

Fitting a short shift kit without adjusting the cables would only succeed in lightening your wallet.
