Slow Engine Start - 997 C4S

My 1st 997 it's a gen1 C4S and I'm not sure if I have an issue or not.

When I start the car it's not an immediate turn key and then engine starts, I would say it takes 2-3 seconds of turning over then it kicks it (it always does, no issues there either hot or cold) and it did this on the test drive in the Porsche dealership so I just assumed it was normal. Never had this on any of my other cars where turning ignition to engine starting is pretty instantaneous (including a 987 Boxster S) on searching the net you get conflicting stories, some people say its normal and all 997's do others saying there is a cable fix for it.

Any Ideas?

Slow turning over from the starter motor does seem quite common on the 997, from either the battery or the earth strap issue- which is what you may be referring to.

Not sure if this is the right technical term/description or not"¦. But I would describe as you turn the key the starter motor starts immediately but you then get 4 or 5 ticks and then the engine kicks into life with a lovely rumble"¦
As I mentioned there seems to be a lot of conflicting info out there on the net if this is normal or not?

cheers

I would have to say in my experience of 2 x 997's and 2 x 996's, that's not normal. I'd say it feels more like 1-2 secs max before all of my engines have started.
Not sure what the solution would be though other than a visit to an OPC, maybe ask to start another of their cars and compare the 2 ??

Mine starts more or less the same to be honest, its much more of a tick over than my 996, tick tick tick tick rumble.

I think mine usually does three or four turns then fires - tick tick tick (tick) boom :)

Probably give or take a turn. Can't say I've ever felt it's been slow to catch.

Steing, does yours seem to be turning over slowly, or is it just that it needs a lot of turns before it fires up?

If it's just slow to turn then it could be your battery, or one of the earth connections as Gary mentioned.

Once it's started, hopefully the engine runs OK?
