Small purchase issue, Gen 1

Hello,
I have been looking for an used Cab and came across a GEN 1 997 which is not yet registered. Porsche would be offering this for an 15% discount from list. I am wondering if this is a reasonable deal in these finacial situations. My other alternative was to go for something couple of years old but I must admit that a new is always tempting although clearly there are some very expensive miles ahead. Thoughts are highly appreciated.
Thanks John

I believe its a good deal being offered there, I have seen numbers of 20% being bantered around though [;)]

If you're not after the PDK and new engine then I'm sure some would say its a good option to take if you really are looking for new.
Otherwise the costs on used vehicles really do make some considerable saving.

15% Discount off the original list price doesn't sound like much of a deal to me. The following brand new car was on offer recently from an OPC with £26k discount before any haggling!£59995.00
"¢ 19 inch CarreraClassic wheel
Automatically dimming interior and exterior mirrors with
integrated rain sensor
"¢
"¢ BOSE Surround Sound System
"¢ Code for exterior colour to sample
"¢ Extended navigation module
"¢ Floor mats
"¢ Heated seats
"¢ Manual Gearbox
"¢ ParkAssist (parking aid rear)
"¢ Porsche crest embossed on head restraints
"¢ Rear section of center console in exterior colour
"¢ Seat belts in Silver-Grey
"¢ Sports exhaust system
"¢ Sports seats
"¢ Telephone module
"¢ Thicker three-spoke sports steering wheel in smooth leather
"¢ Wheel centre set
"¢ Windscreen with grey top tint

doesnt seem bad!!if its a tip tho, forget it now pdk is here!!as it will depreciate more i would guess.if its the spec you want then it may well be a good deal for YOU,if not the spec you would choose then it may be better value going for a slightly older one closer to your ideal spec

Given that you'd lose 15% off a gen 2 the moment you drive out of the showroom, then 15% off an old model is no deal at all. Some OPCs are offering 10k off current Boxsters (RRP of £43-49k ) ahead of the gen 2 launch; thats somewhere around 20% off.

You really have to look at the used prices in OPCs to gauge pricing - find half a dozen cars less than 6 months old to compare against, and bear in mind you'd probably pay about £5k under their sticker prices to secure one of those cars. OPCs would rather sell a new car than a used one, even if its at used car pricing, as it keeps their new car sales figures up

The trouble with what apparantly is a great discount on a car in stock is that the bargain is only a bargain if the options are exactly what you want. As I would not want grey seat belts, BOSE, embossed head restraints or sports seats, the savings become minimal. Moreover, though 15% seems a lot, I suspect it is still being sold at more than the OPC paid for it. Given that after a limited period of time, the OPC has to come up with the cash, then I am sure bigger discounts are available for stock items.

Now they are things I would want/have [;)] so making the benefits higher to myself.

I would haggle really hard - get them to pre-register it and get it even cheaper! The car is going to plummet in price anyway, try and minimise your loss OPC had it too good 'til now.

I won't be buying anything new - I am a die-hard aircooled person [:D]. Ultimate dream car is F40, again not available new [;)].
