SmartTop Question

I've just had SmartTop fitted. Excellent invention. However, I've one query (gripe). When the roof is triggered, the (P) light appears on the dash. Fair cop, as I presume this indicates the unit is having to override the parking brake sensor. However, it takes it's time going out after the roof has finished moving - sometimes not going out at all until I've stopped and put the parking brake on. It doesn't do any harm, it's just b****y annoying. Is there a cure?

Sorry, not a cure but I thought I let you know that I have the 986 version and I don't have such a problem i.e. the (P) light never comes on during the roof movement. Assuming you have got the SmartTop from Wilhelmy: E-mail Sven Tornow (sales@wilhelmy-it.com) or call him on +49-30-401 025 35. He is based in Germany; very helpful person who sorted a group buy discount for the Porsche Club guys a couple of moons ago. His English is pretty good too...

Here's the reply from Sven:

The parking light coming on during roof operation is a result of the way the porsche control box
operates. Howewer it MUST turn off again max. 30 sec after roof operation finishes. If it stays on
continuously after a roof operation, please send the smarttop back to our main office and lab in USA
for immediate replacement.

I have a smart top on my 03 996 cabrio.

Sometimes it takes a few pushes on the button to get the roof to go up or down in one go.

Anyone got any advice?

If mine doesn't operate first time its usually something to do with the speed, they won't one touch operate below a certain speed i.e. standstill

This is due to safety reasons i.e. if you are standstill someone could be around and may get injured.
You can override this if you feel it is safe: When the roof is open hold the open side switch for a couple of second and quickly press and release the close switch and it will close without holding; do the vice verse when the roof is closed i.e. when you have just got into the car and started the engine. The instructions which came with it explains all this very clearly.
