Smell of fuel when throttle is closed

I have a smell of fuel when I take my foot of the accelerater
I have checked the engine bay and it is dry, Also around the pump is dry.
Does the tank have a breather, And could this be the problem?

Assuming you mean the smell is unburnt fuel I've heard of the seal around the sender being the cause. You access it through a panel in the boot floor.

The rubber gromit at the base of the spare wheel chamber was missing. I have put one in and it seems to have done the trick. The seal around the sender was ok.

I think that grommet should be one designed to allow water to drain out through it - you might get a puddle if you have any water leaks if you replaced it with a solid one. I'd guess the proper part from an OPC would be cheap.

I have a drain hole in the right hand pocket behind the rear wheel arch that doesn't have a grommet in it. Should it have one there also??

I have drain holes open in the front lower edge of the rear wing `pockets` and also the spare wheel well and I dont get any exhaust or petrol fumes. I also drove it recently with only one side of the tailgate settled properly, only noticed it as I could see daylight (just) under the seal, and still didnt get any fumes.
