Smoke coming from under driver's seat

Hi,

I'm extremely worried. My daughter has had a number of problems with her Porsche 996 Carrera (non-Turbo) since she had it in January (not sure what year it is, but it's about 10 years old).

Today's has been the most worrying. She had a problem with the driver's seat so the car went to a garage that the Porsche garage use . She got it back last week and today she left work, drove a few yards down the road and noticed smoke coming from the driver's seat! Obviously she jumped straight out but was understandably very shaken and it's now sitting in a garage waiting to be taken back to where it was bought so they can send it back to the garage that 'repaired' the seat - I use the word 'repaired' loosely. []

Does anyone know what this could be? I'm very angry and worried as I don't understand how it can be taken to a garage for repair of the seat and come back unsafe like this!

Sorry to hear of the problem, which I have never heard of before. What was it about the seat that needed repairing?

It sounds like the wiring under the seat has been damaged. It depends on what equipment the car has, but it could be for a seat motor, heating element, or possibly the telephone module, if it has one. If it is smoking, it should be fairly obvious, and easy enough to find.

Hi and thankyou for your reply.

I think the seat wouldn't adjust properly, it was the latest in a line of problems, so it went in to the garage, they waited for whatever part it was they needed and my daughter got the car back thinking it was fine.

The worry was the smoke. :( As I say, the car had a few problems including the seat, all in all the garage had it for 4 weeks while they made repairs to the engine too, as the warning light came on.
