Smoke from Bonnet

Whenever I am sat in traffic I get the occasional puff of white smoke from the Right hand side of the bonnet and the smell of burning oil. I haven't been able to do it with the bonnet up yet and at the moment I am travelling to and from the station in the dark. Looking in the engine bay at the weekend I see that the pipes from the PAS resevoir are looking a bit manky/oily and the resevoir seems a little low, could it be PAS fluid leaking onto the hot exhaust? Anyone else had similar?
Thanks Chaps

Ive got just the same thing on my car at the moment.
Its going in to have the PAS system checked and pipes replaced if needed and also the cam box gasket replaced.

I was told that its more likely to be the cam box gasket leaking onto the hot exhaust manifold than the PAS pipes as they are too far forward.

Neither job is particularly time consuming.

Thanks, I'll take a look around the cam cover.

It is a bit embaressing when people are pointing at the little plume...

probably leaking from the o-ring that seals between the cam tower and the diamond shaped cam sprocket cover that mates to the cam tower... when this leaks it tends to leak a small amount of oil to around the area where the cam tower meets the cylinder head in that front corner above exhaust manifold runner on cylinder 1

Thanks Jon,
I gave it a good thrash yesterday and then let it run on the drive to see if I could spt where it was coming from....of course it behaved impeccably!
I will have another look following your suggestion next weekend

Rav, you're spot on!

Sat it on the drive ticking over yesterday and watched drops of oil fall from the bracket mounted on the cam cover by Cylinder 1 onto the manifold and rapidly evaporate in a puff of smoke.....

Yip, right on the engine number. The gasket is less than £1. Got to be the cheapest 944 fix on the market.

I've just done mine!

Stuart

If it is the cork gasket at the back, 4 bolts off and you're away! There is a guide with pics on clarks garage.
