Smoke from left wheelarch - bad????

Have noticed that when I stop (993 TT) there has been a fair bit of smoke coming from the left wheelarch - and a smell of burning.
Car runs fine and engine temp fine. Took the engine cover off while engine still running - no smoke seen.
I think its coming from some section of the exhaust - but not sure. Its a little bit worrying. Also both rear wheel arches feel very hot after using the car, and I havent been thrashing her at all.
Not sure what it could be - any ideas??

Has any oil been spilt on the engine when filling? This can run down onto the heat exchanger and cause smoking soon after stopping.

Not topped the oil up for ages. Could an oil leak cause this - but suspect it would smoke all the time if that was the case.

Exactly the same thing happened to me a few months ago. The lower cam cover had become permeated and as the engine heated up and the oil became thinner, it leaked through and dripped onto the exhaust. Then, the heat of the exhaust burnt the oil which caused the smoke. Aparently this is a common fault. Fortunately, I was covered under warrantee otherwise it would have cost around £500

Mine is smoking right now from the rear wheel arches, it is very common when you have got an oil leek. my rear oil feed pipe was leaking about 2 weeks ago but it is now sorted. If your car continues to smoke ater it has been fixed dont wory, its will probably be oil that they did not steam clean after the work, They allways seem to leave some in there!!!!
