Smoke on start up

Sure this been covered before but I've just got the car back from a service and from cold I get a big blast of smoke when I fire her up. It doesn't last and it's only happened since I got it back. The oil gauge is right at the top so I'm thinking they may have slightly overfilled it??? Im assuming it will burn off. I'll check the dip tonight but I usually only have the gauge to 3/4 full.

Mine recently started doing that, but only very occasionally. According to the forums and my independent, who checked it over, it's pretty common and is made worse by overfilling or even the oil grade used. I usually run mine at just below half-full on the gauge when very hot, with 10/40. As with all 'financial' advice, however, DYOR! It may be worth having it checked or draining a little oil out. Cheers/John

I would drain a little out. The flat six design does encourage a little smoke on startup but usually only if left for several days unused.
