Smoke on start up

When I start up I get a big puff of smoke. Nothing when driving? Problem or have I overfilled the oil. Check says full. Ideas?

Has it only started recently?

Have you had to top up oil more in recent times?

Horizontal orientation of engine leads to some oil leaking into piston which then burns off on start up BUT
Scoring of cylinders is also a potential reason.

Check out buyers guide on Hartech website and book car into opc or indie for a bore scope investigation.

Carreras give a short puff of smoke about 1 in every 10 or so starts. If it is like a smoke screen everytime you start (and the problem is new) the air-oil seperator may be faulty. It is a common problem.

As minny says, it could be the AOS. If it's persistent, best to get it checked out ASAP.

 I have this (problem?) with my car, I contacted Porsche Centre Bournemouth and they asked what the reading was from the oil bar graph - I said that all the bars were lit up cold, they said I've overfilled the oil, (strange when I don't need to top up between services!) they said not to worry and that they would sort it out at the next service, and guess what - when it came back from it's service I still get all of the bars lit up - so even they can't get it right - now I'm not sure if there is an issue or not - the cars only done 25K miles.

I thought AOS would smoke pretty much all the time if is gone?. (And loads)

I thought smoke on start up were sticky lifters, Coil pack etc?.

[:)] I would say that you will find it very helpful to speak to Hartech (Bolton) regarding this issue, they are a mine of information.
