Smoke

I had an issue with my 996 C2 cab a few months ago when it produced a lot of smoke on start-up a couple of hours after a 100 mile journey. There was no loss of power and it hasn't done it since.
However today I took it out for a spin and after chucking it round a roundabout and accelerating quite hard in second gear I noticed quite a bit of smoke which eventually cleared.

The first time I had the problem I had driven round a roundabout quite quickly before turning off the engine.

This may be coincidental but could cornering cause an oil surge that would let oil into one of the cylinders? Or could this be something to do with the oil/air separator? Or something more sinister and costly?

I haven't noticed any oily deposits in the tail pipes and the engine sounds healthy. The car has done about 75k and is a tiptronic.

Many thanks for your help.
Richard

Thanks for the quick response Richard. Hard to tell really as saw it in the wing mirror - bluey grey I would say. The car was serviced recently and the oil level indicator at start is showing full but I haven't checked on the dipstick - will do so tomorrow. The car doesn't overheat or use any water and the water does not appear oily. Could this be rings?

Unlikely to be rings, or it would be doing it most of the time. Check the oil level first. If it is OK, a good test for a failed AOS is to remove the inlet hose to the throttle body, open the butterfly, and look inside. If it is coated with an oily film, it is likely to be the AOS. Min's Throttle Body Cleaning DIY shows how to get the hose off.

Thanks for the tip Richard. Checked the oil level on the dipstick and seems ok. Pulled the hose off the throttle body and there were signs of oil so its going in to have the OAS changed. Hope that solves the problem. Thanks again
