Smoke !

I wouldn' t be overly concerned about the smoke at start up - I believe this is common with the 911 due to the engine layout. My ' 89 certainly starts with a small puff of smoke, particularly if it has been sitting for some time but this clears immediately.
However I would be more worried about the other sympthoms that your car is displaying. Any chance that you might have an oil leak on to a hot engine part? Otherwise I would suggest a visit to a specialist for compression tests etc.
Check out the forums on Rennlist or Pelican parts they have numerous threads on this subject.

Nick,
Desribe the car; mileage, work done?etc?
What' s the service history?[8|]
Sounds like rings to me; a simple compression test will tell.
The oil you were using was too light; you need 15W 50 for synthetic at least.
Mobil 1 is available in this range, infact is the prefered oil for this mtr.
Porsche GB recommend using a minimum 10W. See web page at http://www.county-oil.co.uk/mobil-lubricants-automotive.html for the complete range.[;)]

I use 0-40 Mobil 1 with no smoking (except at start up) or problems.

The smoking under acceleration sounds worrying. Like has been said, get a compression test carried out by a Porsche specialist.

Nick

I am the same, oil wise, as Glasgow 911SC, except I don' t see any smoke on startup (maybe the garage hides it). Still, it has only done 120,000 mile approx.
Everyone says that Mobil 1 is too thin, but my 3.2 uses less oil when I use Mobil 1 than when I used to use ' normal' oil.
