Smoking on acceleration

Hello all,
Just got my B/85 plate 944 2.5litre, luuuurvly, accept for a couple of minor problems! It smokes on high revs, I dont think its black smoke, but I havent driven him for about 2 months now, until I can sort out (funds) so I cant remember and I don't want cause any damage, there is also a strong smell of petrol when I open the windows, so I keep them shut, other than that he runs brilliantly, can anyone please point me in the right direction, if you have experienced similar problems.

with smoke at high revs and the smell of petrol it just sounds like your car is running rich after sitting for a while.

If oil levels and water levels dont change then you have very little to worry about i think
 
Strong fuel smells can be due to leaking fuel lines where they are prone to corroding over the rear axle. It is also possible that the seal around the fuel sender is not seated properly (check by removing the round cover in the boot floor to access it). In the engine bay there can be leaks around the fuel rail or pressure regulator, and as they sit above the exhaust manifold that is hugely bad.[FONT=verdana,geneva"] [FONT=verdana,geneva"]Then again as Jamie says black smoke suggests rich running which could be related to fuel smells. I'm not sure what would make your car run rich though as it has no cat (I assume) hence no lambda sensor to fail and it can't be a boost leak. Possibly a vacuum leak though, or a dodgy air flow meter, or fuel pressure regulator?[FONT=verdana,geneva"]
 
Get the fuel pressure regulator checked out and as previously mentioned the fuel lines at the back.

Don't ignore petrol smells get it checked asap
 
Mine was a split fuel pressure regulator throwing far too much fuel into the engine causing black smoke. It could also be your injectors sticking causing it to run rich.

Hi all and thanks for your help so far, ok, its actually blue smoke, so I don't think it has anything to do with fuel, any suggestions guys? [:'(]
 
You need to have a wet and dry compression test done then as blue smoke is oil. It will either be top end (valve guides and stem seals) or rings. Hope for the former.
 
yeah pray it is valve stem oil seals far cheaper to replace and easier.

Piston rings are a pure nightmare on any car
 
ok : the latest is:
a friend of mine thinks it might be something to do with the crank case breather, he also found oil in the air filter, would this be related, anyways, between us i'm sure we'll get there, then I 'll post some nice piccies, oh and with regards to spotting, think this would be rather cool on here, seperate link or something. ok have a good weekend all......
