Smoking Turbo

After a winter of discontent trying to sort out a no start problem, she now starts has a nice new MOT pass but has taken to smoking, lots of blue smoke when she comes on boost, I am presuming oil from the turbo is being blown into the engine. So any advise on removing, servicing or replacing the turbo would be very welcome. It looks like its been there for 30 years.

Are you sure it hasn't just built up a bit of oil in the cylinders from lots of failed starts? Might just need a decent run?

I thought the same to start with but I have done about 70 miles since putting her back on the road, just hoping it will go away, but it doesn't. If I get chance this week-end I'll check for any blade movement. The only thing that is different from before is that I put Millers CFS nano oil in rather than the usual CFS I use, I can't see that that would make any difference.

I'd change the oil first John..I tried that oil in my car after it's rebuild, even though my son warned me not too.....it was awful, had some smoke on a brand new engine...car likes Mobil 1 much better....no smoke since for over nearly 2 years..

Its worth a go Pete, I ordered the nanodrive by mistake thinking it should be fine.

What viscosity are you using ? when I first bought my turbo I used 5w40 and it leaked and used some oil. Been using 15w50 CFS for years now with no leaks and very little oil use.

I have been using 10w40 Millers CFS for about 4 years with no problems, as Pete says it could just be the nanodrive stuff she doesn't like.

I'd still try the 15w50. I'm not sure Millers sell CFS anymore, they sent me 20 litres this year though so I'm sorted for 3 years :).

I think that's why Opie sent the nanodrive that I have in.[8|]

This kind of rings true for me too, I use millers 10w 50 CFS but I did use nanodrive for one fill during which time I did notice it was a bit smoky.

Mine's more than a bit smoky, lays down a smoke screen like a WW11 destroyer when on boost.
