Had issues with my 85 944 2.5 8v lux overheating, only just bought the beauty and she is booked in for a major service in when i come back of my holidays in September but as i have one last chance to drive her before i go away although be it to work i thought i might have a bash at bleeding the coolant for peace of mind.
Here is what i did.
Open Expansion cap (No way to really tell the level because of how yellow the tank is and it seems quite dirty inside.
open bleed screw
fill tank till only coolant comes out the bleed screw
replace cap and tighten bleed screw
allow engine to warm up Fans come on the go off.
kill engine
open bleed screw until only coolant comes out
repeat
and then when engine is fully cold i.e tomorrow morning check fluid level on tank and refill if necessary
i had a lot of air come out while bleeding and now the engine seems to run cooler and doesn't get as hot and cools down quicker when fans come on. Am i right in thinking is good to take a socket with me tomorrow and do another bleed tomorrow when i get to work and obviously keep and keen eye on the engine temp.
Something to note! Lots of rags around the bleed screw is a must had liquid go into the cyl #1 spark plug well was interesting to see her run on 3 cyl sounded like a scooby.
Main questions i have are. Does the above sound right? have i done is correctly? (Car was on slope) and secondly is it possible to overfill the coolant or do all cars have overflow pipes? (Tank was dry when i started filling )
