Sodden Car!

Whilst my Wife was cleaning and hoovering the inside of the 944 yesterday (how did I convince her to do that?) she noticed that the rear OS foortweel was soaking wet. I peeled back the carpet and it all looked OK underneath and I had a poke around inside the sill which seemed to be dry. I am hoping that it was just a leaking bottle of water rather than anything else, I attacked it with a hairdryer and will keep a close eye on it next time it rains.

any other ideas where it could be coming in? the seats are dry as are the higher parts of the carpet, so I don't think it is sunroof or windows?

Thanks Chaps

Time for a 944 leak faq. If you're doing anything like testing sunroof drains please take pics and e-mail them to me!

You mean after all these years there isn't one?

What happened to the FAQ's on Titanic or Bert Gears guide to fixing leak?

A spiffing idea! Im obviously going through stripping the car out right now so I will gladly take some photos for this thread!

Neil.

An ex 968-owning friend did this annotated picture for me, showing what caused his wet footwell. The pic is after a lady reversed her Laguna into it whilst parked, she assumed it was her neighbours bin when she felt resistance, so put her foot down.....[]

I'm sure I remember a thread some time back where somebody had taken some good pics showing the routing of the tubes with part of the carpet or trim removed allowing access to the pesky 'T' piece inside the C pillar.

What does the t-piece do exactly. One of the end of the t-piece in mine seems to go nowhere but I presume its meant to be connected to somewhere.

ps, does anyone have a better quality pic of the shot above as I cant read the text in it [&:]

The tee piece connects the sunroof drain and the drain from the petrol filler recess, hope this helps John.

My t-piece has a black connector which is simply loose. Is this meant to connect to the petrol filler [&:]

I can't really tell from the picture, you should have a pipe coming down from the drain spigot on the corner of the sun roof channel,on the bottom of the petrol filler recess there is a special grommet that is fitted in the hole on the bottom of the recess, into this is fitted (on the inside and a bit of a sod to reach ) a short piece of metal pipe incorporating a 90 degree bend and having a small flare on the end that fits into the grommet, a piece of plastic pipe connects this to the tee piece,a piece of plastic pipe then goes from the tee piece to the exit on the bottom of the boot well, hope this helps John.

Cheers for that. Im a bit confused if im honest. In my photo the left hand white tube leads up to the rear sunroof drain. The other side of the white tube (rhs) is connected to the tube which runs down into the boot well (I had just disconnected the tube to clean it out thats all).

The black tube piece is connected to nothing, its simply resting on the rear wheel arch. The petrol filler inlet is on that side of the vehicle however so am I right in thinking the black tube is supposed to be connected to the filler inlet?

Thank you again.

Yes that is the one that connects to the drain from the fuel filler recess, First open the filler flap, locate the drain then you know where to shove your arm to locate the metal pipe that the rubber pipe fits to,sorry to confuse you I thought they were all plastic, you will probably be better removing the grommet and metal pipe fitting your rubber pipe to it reassembling it leaving the connection to the tee piece last as it is easy to get to if you see what I mean, all the best John.
