Anyone got any good advice on how best to clean and generally smarten up the soft top on my '99 cab?

Thanks

I use a three stage process of cleaning the roof.

First is to hoover the roof clean.

I use the Autoglym fabric hood cleaner kit which includes the roof shampoo and the roof waterproofer.

Spray the roof with the cleaner, use the sponge provided to work the sprayed areas into a lather, once the roof is washed, water off the soap and then pat dry the roof with a microfibre cloth.

You can spray the waterproofer on right away if you like, but I leave it to dry as its easier to tell any areas you have missed.

Using these cleaners make sure run off from the shampoo and waterproofer is wiped off the body work and glass immediately.

Thats it really, occasionally will hoover the roof and depending if it gets a bit grimy will do the above as and when.

Takes about an hour from start to finish to do.

Ellis - I moved this post from the Technical Articles forum so that it would get more hits. During the process it must have been duplicated. There was only one reply on the duplicated post, which was:

There have being a few threads recently, might be worth doing a search on the boxster forum. Personally dependant on how much of a clean it needs I would either:

Quick clean - thorough vac, clean top with a faily concentrate solution of Johnson's baby bath (sounds odd but was a tip from someone on the forum and works great) using a faily soft brush. Thoroughly rinse it all off and leave to dry.

Full clean - vac, use something like the autoglym cleaner (I know opinions are divided on this as to whether it is any good, but works for me), thoroughly rinse. Recolour the top if necessary using something like Renovo (you paint it on which means it is easier to apply), leave it to fully dry and finally reproof with fabsil (or similar).

I had a neat trick to get rid of the dust and crud that lies on the fabric top (including the bloomin cat's hairs that the thing deposits when it fancied a kip on the roof) Those adheasive borders that wallpaper shops sell to go around the room make great dust removers. The adheasion is very good and if you buy the widest roll you can you can pickup a lot of muck fast.

I leave the care of my roof, in fact the interior and the paintwork too, to one of the professional detailing companies - thw work is amazing and the car looks stuning, and well worth the money....................
