Soft Top Preventative Maintenance

Hi All,

Just wondering if there's any form of preventative maintenance I should be doing to the mechanism of the roof? Should I be oiling or greasing anything (sensible answers only:ROFLMAO:)

Thanks in advance

Philip

The top comes down rarely on my 987.2 so I apply a 'drop' as in 'drop' of 3 in 1 oil or engine oil on the pivots at the same time I do the rear boot hinge pivots. 3 in 1 is a searching oil so a drop penetrates the pivots. Grease won't get into the joint just seal it off.

If you use the roof a lot probably need such maintenance less as the pivots are exercised and rust build up minimised.

Did mine while cleaning the car to keep up with those on the cleaning thread...[:)]

Thanks Hillclimber, I'm still working and it's my everyday car so at the moment the roof is down everyday - much to the disgust of some people I might add[:(]

I'll have a look at the pivots later, it's not creaking or moaning but I just thought preventative is always better than repairing - sorry for seeding the cleaning thread![:D]

I drove the 987.2 yesterday to drop in a repeat prescription, about 5 miles away to my Doctors, roof down as Mrs Hillclimber was not with me. I felt quite guilty to do this 'allowed' journey in a luxury car, not all the glances were friendly or admiring of the shiny car...
Have to say it drove fabulously. First drive in 4 weeks. Absence makes the heart grow fonder.

Not sure if you know of the 'alternative' early Porsche site called DDK, but your cleaning inspiration has now rubbed-off there![:)]
Graham.
