Soft Top Problems

Just over 3 weeks ago I purchased my first used Porsche Boxtser S, it is a 04/01 model with the plastic window. At the time when I purchased the vehicle from an OPC it had a white residual on the black roof bar above your head. I was told this was wax and not a problem. Just last week the clip holding the front of the roof lining came away and I rang the dealer where i bought it and he told me to take it to a local OPC and get it looked at.

When I spoke to my local OPC i was told it would need a whole new roof lining and would cost about £700 + vat (incl lab). When I told the OPC that I brought it from I was told to take it back to him instead. (round trip of 300 miles) At the same time the other OPC mechanic looked at it i was informed that the white marks on the roof support were actually some form of rusting.

At the moment the OPC dealer has agreed to have the car back and look at the work needed, but I am concerned about the possible rusting on the roof support.

Whilst i appreciate these items are not covered under the 1 year warranty would it be reasonable to expect the OPC that I brought it from to put it right.

04/01 model. I thought you get 2 years warranty. Just take it to an OPC and have them do it FOC.
If there is hastle, contact Reading Customer Relations and kick up a stink with them. If you really
are out of warranty I am sure they will come to the party with some good-will on such a new car.

WD40 is exactly what is says on the tin! a water dispersal spray. It doesn't offer any long term lubrication.

Try looking around at spray grease in your local motor factors. There are varying types (some with bolder claims than others) but all should be better suited than WD40. Try and choose one with a pipe to direct the spray.

We have our own favourite, which we use on roofs when we perform a service.

Thanks

What do you use on the roof during a service?
