Soft top tension ropes

Both of the tension ropes snapped on my soft top, so I duly got on the internet for new ones and boy was I in for a supprise. £17.00 each is what I was quoted. Now being a tight git I set about making my own. A length of cable and two ferrules later and I have new tension ropes. Total cost £3.00.

Hi, are you talking about the tension wires that wrap around the window frame when the roof is closed, or the tension cables at the rear of the roof. The reason I ask is that on my Boxster the cable around the window frame has stretched and now appears outside the window frame and I am not sure how to fix it.

Sorry the tension cables at the rear of the roof. That said why not try to make a new cable for the roof? check the connections and look on e bay for the ferrules that join the cable

thanks. I have located some ferrules and wire on e-bay. I will have a go of fixing the roof this weekend.

It may not have stretched.
With the roof half open, take a look at the roof construction to the rear of the side window.
There are a couple of velcro tensioners - these can be adjusted (not too tight!) to help align the roof edge back within the plastic trim.
There is also a metal sprung "finger" visible that may need a gentle tweak - compare to the other side to see any difference for guidance.

Hi Mark,
I know about the velcro fasteners. I have tried all things to correct it. The car is now sorned and I will in the next few days peel the roof back {something I have done on another roof} to have a proper look at it. It could be the wire or the spring it is attached to.

I looked on ebay for ferrules but not sure which ones to use - and cable - could you please post a link? ( I don't want to buy wrong.

Thanks in advance
Frank
