Soft top wear and tear

My car is just 2 years old, with only 7K on the clock. It doesn't get used very often (2 or 3 trips a week) and since I live in Scotland, the softtop doesn't go up and down like a yo-yo, and I absolutely never drop it when it's wet. However, I've noticed a faint line already developing across the top, just behind the 2nd support (middle of roof). It's more pronounced on one side than on the other and on the worst side is about 6 inches long, but is only obvious when looking from behind. My questions are; is this acceptable wear and tear (OPC seems to think so), and would an Autoglyn roof treatment improve the look and help prevent further fading at these points. Water still beads nicely on the top in the rain so I don't think it needs the proofing treatment. Obviously this is on a crease line and my worry is that I'll be looking at a distinct line right across the roof before too long and perhaps even a rip as it develops. I've seen this line on one pre-facelift car, but most of the other cars I see don't seem to have this problem. Any advice appreciated.

 
Hi. I have a similar problem but as I have hard top as well so I also have four circles on the roof where the rubber stoppers on the metal shield which covers the roof when down rests. They are all rub marks and although you can adjust the pressure on the roof when it is down I have found no way to remove them. as they effectivly polish the spot on the canvas they touch. My OPC has also said they are a 'feature' I will have to live with.

Any ideas would be much appreciated for their removal from me also. Can't imagine its the Scottish weather as I live there too!
 
I don't know if this will help, but someone suggested that sparkling [carbonated] water will raise and help remove bird droppings from the soft top, that sticky tape may help and that Autoglym make a fabric cleaner. Never used it but others say that it quite good.

I wnt to wax my car this weekend and the new Autoglym wax polish is also supposed to be good but very hard work.

Time alone will tell.

[&o]Used Autoglym for 25 years+ and never found any product to be hard work if applied as directed. Some products need to be applied to entire car and left a while before removing, others need to be applied to a single panel at a time and removed. Read the label clearly [;)] otherwise your statement may come true:ROFLMAO:
 
Carbonated water is good to remove small debris (like bird droppings), and I can have tested it to positive results.
As fo rthe lines that are forming from the creases - I think that is a 'feature' as the OPC will kindly inform you....

Another Scottish Boxster owner, but loving the good weather we are having at the moment - hood down at any possibly opportunity!
 
Makes me feel slightly better that I'm not the only one, I've also got the 4 disk marks on mine, along the same 2nd support line, but I've got no hardtop. I'll do the autoglym repoofing and see how it looks, I still have a year on my warranty so I'll keep an eye on it. I'm not sure I'll be happy with a white line across my blue top after only 3 years of much less than average use.

Other marque's due have similar problems, however the white marks can be corrosion on the cross members of the supports.
BMW replace the roof under warranty if the marks are too bad.. again the joys of Porsche ownership[:'(]

yup also had these marks on my last Boxster which wore a hard top during the winter months. i did find that sealing the roof using scotch guard did (for some reason) seem to help them not show up so much. also used to slip a bit of (thin)cloth over the hood before opening it for fitting the hardtop seemed to help cushion the fabric.
 
Just wondering - would an OPC look at those marks and tell you the car needed a new roof when you were trying to part-ex the thing ?

I know they seem to work on the basis of the car is worth X and then the subtract all the work that needs to be done from that.

Oh, and I have the 4 circles, and the line - and the white line on the inside of the hood..
 
I too have a line and the circles on a 2 year old car. However, I can't see them when inside the car with the roof up, and they disappear when the roof is down!

So long as it doesn't leak....
