Software "corrupt"

Hi all,

I have a 997.2 C4S cabriolet.

Problem:
Car kept on going into limb mode as wasn't picking up speed and car went into 7th gear at 28mph.
It was diagoned with needing a distance and speed sensor.

Got it fitted from garage A 60 milkes away as they the only ones I could find in the UK willing to do job as main dealers said new or reconditioned gearbox for at least £11k and all seemed ok for a number on months then all of a sudden car jerked twice back in March 24
Took it to my local garage B and parked car outside garage. The technician was unable to drive car into garage onto ramp as now lost all its gears.
He saw oil leak and took off the under tray and said one of the pipes underneath not connected properly by garage A. All the gearbox oil had leaked out.
They put a new pipe of an attempted to do the softeware update for the PDK and it kept on stoping halfway through. They charged £600 for the job and told me to take it to Garage A where I had the senor work done. Garage A came to take car away 60 miles away at the very beginning of April 24.

Garage A kept of passing the car back and forth between one of their specialist technicians a few away from them and did various work including a replacement PDK ECU unit but not luck and today said could not fix.

What could the issue(s) be and who can successfully do the software update?

This is getting me so down, frustrated as I have no answers and was hoping for some help. My no is 07956 860573.

Hi,

You need to be aware that Porsche don’t consider the PDK transmission to be a repairable item and, despite it being of ZF manufacture, no spare parts are available. Although I’m not aware of any UK company offering a repair service [you could try Austrin Gearbox Specialist in Newcastle to see if they can help], BR Racing in the US report that they have had successes using aftermarket components like the distance and speed sensors:

Post-repair calibration requires the highest level PIWIS diagnostics available only at Porsche dealers and a few Porsche Partner Independents like JZM and RPM Technik, although BR Racing indicate that often this requires numerous attempts. The competence of your garage A to effect a lasting repair is in doubt, even if they did get the transmission working for a short time, and unless they guarantee their repairs [as they should] you might wish to have the argument with them that you expected better and claim a refund.

I suppose you could try sourcing a used unit from a breaker, although this is always going to be risky, with no guarantee of success. Unfortunately I think that a genuine Porsche replacement unit is your only other alternative.

Jeff
