Solar powered battery maintainer recommendation

Hi - I have a gen 1 Cayman that is a second car and it’s parked on the driveway. I recently had a new battery as I’m not driving it enough in the winter. I’ve been looking at battery maintainers and wondered if anyone had any good recommendations for a reasonably priced solar powered battery maintainer?

Plan B is the CTEK MXS 5.0 - but that would involve me running an extension cable up the drive and to the outside socket in the back garden...

Thanks in advance, Dom

p.s. I’ve tried searching on the forums but not having much luck.

I have a solar panel which works well to keep the battery in my 987.2 Boxster charged enough. It just props up behind the seats - I park it so the rear window faces south.

It works well unless you do ad I did and forget to unplug the dashcam - so i had to go on a drive out with some Porsche friends - in a Land Rover!

Thanks Graham - any ideas where you got it from? I’ve seen a load on Amazon and one in Halfords - hard to tell if any of them are any good though...

I've been using the AA branded one with the OBD2 connection over the winter - can be bought on eBay for around £20 - £25: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/223140890601

It's worked well for me so far - I generally only drive the car on the weekends and not had a problem with a flat battery (yet!).

It won't fix a worn out or flat battery but seems to help top up a working one.

Luckily I park in a south facing spot!

I’ve used “cheapy” ones for years. On tractors and now on a Land Rover.

Got them on Ebay and cost about £10 then. They are probably better now and on the basis of “you get what you pay for” suggest you have a look and decide how much you want to pay.

As above, mine will certainly not charge a battery but are pretty good at maintaining one. The L/R does discharge over longer periods but better with this. I actually used to use one on an RX-8 inside a building with clear panels in roof. Worked surprisingly well.

Thanks for the replies - I might give this a go as the battery is brand new and I’d like to keep it good. Really appreciate it!
