Sold my 993tt and bought...

Its soo nice when u gete a baby , house and garage thrown in .................have fun with the new toy .

Firstly, congratulations on your purchase.
Give it a while to get used to it, then I'd be interested in your opinions as to what the two are like to live with.
What are the most obvious differences - driveability, turbo lag, sound, character?

You obviously had your reasons for swapping, but it seems a curious choice to some people.

Thanks for the messages guys. In answer to why I made the switch:
Now that we have a baby who will be sat in the back, we needed something more refined, smooth, comfortable with more safety features and more gadgets. 996tt prices have really come down recently and have now leveled off at very reasonable prices. Initial impressions are that the 996tt is a lot easier to drive, more forgiving and flattering ie. it makes me a better driver than I actually am. The ride is smoother and more refined and so is the power delivery. It inspires a lot more confidence than the 993tt but you loose the great feedback that you get from the 993tt. This was a compromise I was willing to make ...but maybe a purist would not. Having said that, if I really was a purist, I'd probably be more inclined to go for a normally aspirated, rear wheel drive car such as a GT3.

You need to change your avatar now.

Yes, was hoping to do it today. By the way, what do you think of the short-shift Stuart? Do you know if it can be retro-fitted and if so how much it would cost?

Sorry for calling you a nutcase, Barry. Now I understand your reasons and they make great sense. Bit worried for the youngster, though. You do realise that the G-forces could cause a permanent rictus-grin on the little one, dont you. Not sure you can go through life like that.
Happy stonking.

No offence taken John. I really enjoyed my 993tt and I can understand why you would have thought I was nuts but the 996tt is the better car for me in my current circumstances and I am enjoying it every bit as much as my old car.

JEDDOB.. congratulations on the new toy.

SAILOR...... I think the 993TT is a fabulous car, but just as a matter of interest what makes you think that it is better than a 996TT?

Sorry I missed the question.
The short shift reduces the throw by about 30% I think, and is quite noticeable.
Shifting requires more force, expecially when cold, but the more precise feel is more satifying.
I like it a lot.
It can be retro-fitted, in fact I believe you can fit it yourself.
There have been several threads about it the other model sections (996 and Boxster).
I am not sure about the cost though.
I have had no problems (touch wood) although I heard from a lady a Reading that there have been some issues with them. When I said I had one, she would not say what the issue was, but that it could be easily fixed and that I would have noticed it very quickly if there was a problem.

Another turbo in Kent [:D]
Reading your impressions I can't help but agree - the 996TT is less of a handful than a 993 and (at least for me) although more of acompromise than some are prepared to accept a good compromise!!
I think I would have a GT3 if circumstances allowed but the day to day usability of the Turbo (especially in Tip form) wins out.
Will you be seen at the Kent Region meets ?
