Solid bushings???

I'm have some solid bushings and new A-arm waiting to be installed and I was wondering from those that have made the upgrades Fen, Dave and anyone else please, just what you feel the advantages v's the disadvantages are? I have some time away soon and thought that I'd get my mechanic to put these all in then but our race season is almost over and thought should I wait until next year due to the reputed ride harshness and noise? Insofar as the 'noise' is concerned, I've heard that bushings which incorporate Delrin are squeeky but I have solid bushes and don't think this symptom exists with these? Any opinions are appreciated.

PS the new KW's and the PFC pads are great and have taken 2.5 sec's off 2 different tracks so very pleased thus far. There is more improvement to come. Plus we gave the local BMW car club another trouncing 3rd year running in the annual challenge yesterday which was a bonus.

I didn't ever drive my car between being standard with 152,000 miles on the original non-M030 suspension and fully poly-bushed/Rose jointed with KW Variant 3 and Weltmeister ARBs fitted.

I went with the poly bushes because I was pretty sure my rubber ones were past their best and I wasn't bothered about road manners. That said I don't honestly think it made the car especially harsh. The rear bushes squeak when warm (but you have Elephant Racing ones that will be quiet I think?) and the Rose joints in the top mounts can knock slightly over uneven surfaces or going from lock to lock as the loadings change however.

Perhaps people with more recent experience of more standard 944s than I have who have been in my car are better to comment? That would be Graeme (944TurboS), Paul (Diver944) and Paul (Hilux), the last of whom drove the car very briefly.
 
Thanks Fen. Yes I hope those and other guys can offer their opinions as there is some time now until the '07 season and I'm not sure if it's worth the (perhaps???) harshness?
 
I got to be passenger in Fen's car for a few laps around Oulton Park about a year ago now.
The ride as a passenger was firm but not particularly harsh in my opinion. I was expecting a more "spine jarring" experience but was left impressed with the turn in and almost complete lack of body movement both fore & aft during acceleration or braking & roll during cornering.
I would certainly follow the same route as long as the issues around the front Poweflex bushes were resolved.
 
Solid bushings seem to wear out like burning paper.
At least the ones on my front ARB (bought from Paragon Products) have barely 1k miles yet there is already some play in them and a friend with a 964 racecar reported similar results after a couple of track days.
It's a shame as they really improve steering response.
 
When you say solid on your front sway bar do you mean those plastic or delrin sway bar mounts? The one's I'm talking about are made of Aerospace aluminium and Teflon lined so they're meant to last for ages. Hope so? These aren't sway bar supports though. These are part of the control arms.
 
Sorry, I mean Delrin bushings. Granted they won't be as "solid" as some made of aluminium.
 
Karl from RacersEdge likend driving with solid's as putting 5 more psi in your tyres. I guess he would play it down as he sells them but as I have already bought and paid for mine I guess he didn't have to misrepresent them now so I will fit them and see what happens. Hey I was nervous when I first went for the KW's race version and then moreso when they said what the spring rates were, but just a storm in a teacup as they are fine on the road so I'm confidant that the pros will outweigh the cons,...won't they???:rolleyes:
 
Just to rehash this one more time and let you know that I have had all the suspension components fitted inc the solids and while there is a bit more harshness over the rubber ones, the turn in is much better. I think where the solids will come into their own is on the track under much harder g-forces where you start to lose the geometry that you've set the car up with. I have one more day coming up in a few weeks. I'll post my impressions.
By the way, do any of you guys do hillclimbs? We did one on Sunday and I think they're a great event and give some variety over the Motokhanas and track days. Finished 2nd to the Club Captain in his '05 GT3 so not too bad a result for the new suspension.
 
Well the whole reason I got some of these products was partially due to you and others on this site...and so my thanks go out to you all for such good recommendations re KW's and solids etc...
 
That's really the biggest single reason I'm pleased you are happy; I'd hate to have made recommendations that meant you spent lots of $ and a significant amount of time for the car not to be what you wanted afterwards.
