Solid or go metallic?

My S2 is in the body shop to have all the rust dealt with. I've been offered the option of going from solid black to metallic. I can imagine metallic would look good although it obviously wouldn't be keeping the car original. Has anyone else done this? Any issues to be aware of? They'll only be painting into the door stops etc, so the interior paint would still be solid.

I'm possibly going down the same road and at some stage next year so will be watching this thread with interest.

Have you considered paintshopping it? I'd go with something that accentuates the rear arches. :)

Personally, I think if the car is a keeper then go with whatever option you prefer more and don't worry about originality too much. Unless it's totally original, low mileage, VGC and therefore worth a lot more than most S2s.

Tough one.

I'd never recommend a colour change unless it's a bare-metal respray. It looks wrong if the visible bits aren't painted: engine bay, boot interior etc.

But, metallic black's very nice, and the join won't show too much. [8|]

I had a Panther Black (Metallic) turbo and it nevr looked as good as the solid black car i have now, stay as is IMO [;)]

Thanks for all your helpful comments. I'm coming round to thinking I should keep it solid (as is) - then I won't have to worry about the join and sounds as though it might be a better finish anyway.
