Solid state dme relay

Anyone any experience of using these. After 20 year of trouble free motoring I have just had my second dme relay failure in 12 months. Carrying a spare so we are all good but in the middle of France now with no spare so feeling a tad vulnerable. Anyone tried the solid state one that a guy in the US makes and which at leat one U.K. supplier has available. Sounds in principle like a good idea?

Yep, had one on my 993 for about 8-years or so. No problems, fitted and forgotten (and if that's not tempting fate...). Seriously, we'll worth it - but I still carry an original type in the fuse box.
 
This isnt meant to be a sales pitch, honest! My 993 would cut out very occasionally for a fraction of a second and all lights would show on dash like a Christmas tree. I tried all the usual things, earth points, connections, plugs etc, even changed the DME relay 3 times for the mechanical OEM version and it would still do it about twice a year. Like Les I swapped my normal one over for a SS version and I never experienced the problem again. The standard DME relay does get incredibly hot, almost too hot to touch, the SS version doesnt.
 
T911UK, ...the one solid state relay I could find stated for use up to 1995 only.
Any idea why this excludes 96-98 models, please (mine’s 96MY)?
 
I need to go back online to check but from memory there are two versions - one does something about priming the fuel pumps for easier starting ( can’t say I have ever had any problem) but that is apparently incompatible with later 993 electronics ( no idea why) and there is another version which just replaces the stock item and is fine for all 993s. I found both available online. Given the positive comments I am going to fit one, thanks all.
 
We actually list 4 different solid state DME relays for the 964/993/944/968 (just search "993 dme solid state on our site)

The 993 has a pump prime feature already within the main DME unit so there is no real need to use the "Pump prime" version of relay

The manufacturers say the date change is relevant for early 993 as they have a fuel cut off facility in case of an accident although Im not too sure if this is 100% correct, it maybe a USA spec thing that they have come across.
