I enjoyed the Total 911 article comparing the 993 with the 964 RS but was struck by the omission of a 'standard' 964 RS. I wonder how that would have panned out?
Particularly struck by this thought as when Evo ran their 911 Supertest back in Sep 2001 (using Mr Probert's rather excellent example as well), aside from some faint praise about (i) the engine note at idle, (ii) the build quality, and (iii) the gearchange, I recall that the 993 did not even rate a mention in the 'what's best?' summary (being elbowed aside by the 911 Clubsport, the 964 RS and the GT3 Mk1).
The conclusion was particularly galling as at the time I was awaiting the delivery of my 993 - and the magazine in question was my only reading material for my summer holiday (and the conclusion did not get any better no many time I re-read it. The 'not hardcore enough' Evo summary still grates.
Why do we think the 993 went from being a zero to a hero (rash overstatement I accept) in the two comparisons?
