Some questions about before buying an 993

fix

New member
Were looking at a 993-95 C4 today for the second time, just to make sure that I didn't miss something.

Yes I will let a Porsche specialist look at it on Wednesday for the final verdict.

* VIN / Options: #573 ( is this Air Condition or I'm lucky Retrofitted 210KW)

* Where stone/dirt/gravel protections decal mounted as standard ?
Can I suspect damage then ?

* Is is normal with quite much marks on hood at 100000km ? ( see picture )
I can repaint it, but guess it will cost some $$$
** It worse than the picture tells..

Else I were happy with the car, black and nice with all black leather inside.

Yes - 4-500 pounds to sort it out is to be expected. This is one of the things some of the dealers claim to spend their margin on (but not all of them do)

** Hmm... didn't read properly.....

ÂŁ4-500 OK !

Only for the hood, or also frontwings ?

Soon it's time to check the car at Porsche Specialist, I havn't decided yet if I should go for it or not... even if it's ok.

BUT it's Lots of money, seller asks: ÂŁ23300 for a C4, 1995, 62000 miles. Manual, Black metallic, Black leather interior. 18" TT new tires, new battery, else in nice condition, 1 minor damage repair back frontwing bumber, fixed. AC is working, but not a freezer..., Door stop is broken, Else in nice condition, looked at it 2 times. And last time I think I looked everywhere for damage.

it's soon winter :-(

What do you all say...

But then again, it a such wonderful car, got that WOW feeling and that stupid smile when I drove it ... ...

Before I bought mine a friend told me to adopt the two out of three approach:

Do I want it? Yes
Do I need it? No
Can I afford it? Yes, just about

So for me that was the decison made to buy a 993. Then I set about finding the right one. I am not sure how many you have looked at but I think you should know if it is the right one and at the right price so I am wondering whether you have looked at enough? Once I found the right one I convinced myself that it would hold it's value better than most cars for the same money and that if I had got my answer to - can I afford it? wrong, I could always sell it. Each to their own but I am a bit of a ditherer and so that is the way I did it. Given your hesitation I would say you need to make sure the car is desirable, not only to you but the market generally, just in case you have to bale out. You mention 100,000 km in your first post which made me wonder whether it is an import but perhaps I got the wrong end of the stick - again, I would say the more mainstream the better for your peace of mind. That is probably of no help at all - good luck

That's just great... what a guide to buying a 993. If I used that guide it would have read.

Do I want it? Yes
Do I need it? Yes
Can I afford it? Eh? Refer to the Do's above"¦ ;-)

Patrik,

Get the car looked over properly, at least then you will know what it is that you are dealing with cost wise to make the vehicle 100% which is the way you should continue to maintain and run her; you will then be accepting her on both a personal emotion level and a technically opinionated (learned) level too. Be prepared to spend a couple of thousand at least on receipt or soon thereafter. Servicing will be 1k minimum in my experience.

"¦With regards to that referred to smile, mine hasn't gone yet & strangely despite the many years, my checks don't hurt yet either! You will know when you have found the right one.

The price is good, hard to find anyone cheaper in Sweden... and in Germany they are more expensive.
This is a private seller.

100 000 km / 62000 miles ( the same.. ? ) is quite OK, most cars today have much more km/miles.

Me and the seller went to a Porsche Specialist, one of the better in Sweden, and he took it for a test drive, and checked the car. Inside, Under etc etc.

His statement, a very nice car, feels good to drive, 100000km is proably the right km for it. Nothing major or anything he could add. A Good buy, even so he could buy it for him self.

Faults:
Door stop
AC ( not working... )
Marks on hood

Else nothing, motor runs great, gearbox is ok, clutch feels ok, flywheel ok, new brakes...

The hesitation is if I want to spend that much money on car, nothing to do with the actual car...

Do I want it : YES
Do I need it: NO
Can I afford it: yes... but I have to dig deep in my wallet...

Will decide later today...

The hesitation is if I want to spend that much money on car

That will always be a question you have to ask, but if you haven't answered it by now, no wonder you're dithering[;)].

Like the pics Fix.... one more night thinking or just not sleeping?!. You could flip a coin but I suspect you would make it the best of three if you didn't like the outcome!
