Hi Guys, after 18 months of a Boxster S i am finally taking the step up. The 911 c4s (996) is all but on the drive, but i would like some advice on a few things.

1. The car has only done 33k miles, what should i be looing form that needs doing?? The brake disks and pads havent been done that i know of.

2. The car has only done 3k miles in the past year, but has been really cared for. not a stone chip in sight, and is in showroom condition. Although the last stamp in the book was 2 years ago, only as he thought no point paying for the stamp, should i be worred??

The car has the PSE Bose PSM heating seats etc, and i am really pleased with it, and the car is a great person whom has had PORSCHE'S forever. That said think i'm going to get an inspection????? Thoughts on this also would be greatly recieved.

Thanks guys, hopefully will have some pics on here soon, should all the boxes be ticked.
Yours Thankingly!! [:D]

When I buy a 2nd hand car, regardless of make, I always look at the attitude of the previous owner. Obviously if there is more than 1 this may not apply. I look to see if tyres are all branded and the same, if there is a full service history and if there are loads of receipts even for little things. This would give me an idea that the owner at least cared for the car just that little bit more. Anyone can make a car look good prior to the sale especially with SMART repairs. Any car I get then gets a major service ( unless just done within 3 months), including all fluids changed like gearbox, diff, brake fluid, carried out just to benchmark my starting point. I know it sounds excessive but I'm no extravagant rich person. I just want to make sure I look after my car properly so that it has a decent chance to do the same.

Missing service history, n matter what the annual mileage should always be a concern - since an OPC will o a basic annual oil change for £130 or so, it'd hardly break the bank. The brake fluid will also need changing (every 2 years). Certainly get an inspection carried out by a Porsche expert - forget the AA/RAC. Peter Morgan is rated the best probably, but lots of independent Porsche garages will also carry out an adequate assessment.

33k - brakes will need doing - £1k at an independent.

no question.get peter morgan or similar.not worth the risk.would never buy a car of any value missing a service, unless checked first

The OPC 'annual check' for 130GBPish doesn't include an oil change - you need a minor service minimum for that.

Anyway, a missing service WILL reduce its resale value, so factor that into your purchase price. Also, look out for tyre age (check manufacturer date is well within acceptable life of 6 years). Some say cars that have stood around / done low mileage suffer more from RMS - although I haven't seen any proof of that.

Check that all other services have been done to correct schedule. Depending on age of vehicle, it may be up for a polyrib belt, brake fluid and spark plugs.

Guys, thanks for this much appreciated. Was going to use Mr Morgan as he sure does know his stuff. Yeah, the stamp did worry me certainly re sale value wise. This was 27k in speed yellow and certainly is a minter, but like you have all confirmed, this is not the one for me. Incidentally there is a garage that has is up for £29993 wih a full service which is even more worrying!! If anyone knows anyone looking to part with a good one, let me know!! Thanks again, i'll keep looking........
