something missing above o/s/r wheel!!!

89targa

New member
hi all hoping someone can help i was cleaning the brakes on my 89 targa and noticed theres something missing above o/s/r wheel theres a braket snapped off and a pipe just waving around anyone no wot it is and where i can get a replacement? many thanks jaymes

They are rust traps so ensure you protect the inner wing well before fitting the canister. You'll have to weld on the new bracket as well. I know a few people have done away with the canister all together, though I'm not sure what needs to be done with the remaining pipe work.

My bracket was held on by a couple of 6mm bolts that you can access through the cabin behind the interior board and sound shield. I replaced it when i had the car sorted. I did have an issue with the new cannister(993 version) which has replaced my version as it has different connector sizes and has the connector pipes on the other way around!!

Does anyone know if it was just the later cars that that had these, just curious, not that I ll be getting one.

They filter the petrol fumes from the tank and fuel return. No petrol passes through them, just the odour. Emissions thing and prevents the owner from smelling petrol which then leads to 'leaking fuel paranoia'.

If you don't mind the odd whiff of petrol and think that the fumes leaving your car is just the tiniest drop in the ocean to whatever man made disaster awaits us, I wouldn't worry about it.
