Something running after switching off-help needed

Hi, i have a 944 lux (83). Have noticed that my battery has a drain somewhere and have today noticed that theres a noise coming from the nearside front which sounds like a pump running?? After the car had been left on the drive for about 5 hours i went out to the garage and noticed the noise is still there. I noticed it weeks ago but it then didn't do it again till today. I haven't opened the bonnet or done anything to investigate further but wondered if there is an aux water pump maybe that would run with ign off and perhaps relay is sticking or something?? Any help is greatly appreciated

It could be the fan not switching off not sure about the '83 car but on my 86 lux there is a stat sender in the radiator you need a long reach socket to remove it as it has two spades on it and need the reach to get over try removing the fan relay while it is doing it and see if it stops

Hope this helps
Wil
