Hi Charles, I thought I would share a problem that I resolved with my 3.2 Carrera that you may not of come across before.
I was checking over my car prior to it's MOT and noticed the rear nearside light was not working. After removing the lens to access the lamp I noticed it was working but was very dim. I removed the lamp and measured the voltage on the contacts at less than 4 volts. After consulting the manual I could see there is a connection in the wiring loom inside the engine bay and measured the voltage here, also less than 4 volts. Thinking the problem might be back at the fuse, I looked up its position and number. I noted that the engine compartment light is fed from the same fuse and when I looked this was also very dim. I thought I would have a closer look at the engine compartment light as it had played up before. As I removed the fixing screws the light became very bright, as did the tail light. I disconnected the light altogether and temporarily taped up the wires so I could go for the MOT. A new light was ordered from Porsche and has resolved the problem. The 12v supply to the light is through an insulated post on the light assembly and this had probably broken down on my light.
As an aside the Bentley manual does not show the engine compartment light in the wiring diagram.
An easy fix that might help others in the future.
Regards
Jim Biggs.
