Sony MP3 CD Player Install (HELP)

Guys, ive got the Porsche (Becker) CDR21 set out of the car and the sony MPX70 headunit ready to fit but the connectors on the car dont fit, the power ones are ISO so are fine but the speaker connector blocks are different sized to the normal ISO fittings, im assuming that this is all the phone/speed gubbins?

Any idea if there is a loom / connector available to fit between the wiring blocks as im not to keen on wrecking the standard wiring as i want to be able to fit original unit at some time

Answers please

I'd also be interested in this as I have a lovely Sony MEX-DI (I think that's the number) CD player which i'd love to put in in place of the Porsche CDR-22 i've got but understand that it's a bit of a nightmare changing it over.

Elliott - many thanks for inadvertantly reminding me of this![:D]

It's got a fantastic LCD front screen into which I can apparently load memory stick films I have recorded and play them on the screen.

Very gimmicky but just so cool! God, you can can tell i'm not the technical brains in my household - i'd have bought it just because it looked pretty!

<blush>

MEX-5DI ?

There you go...........

Now Dawn, Tell me how i fit mine please [;)]

That's the one! I've had it three months now and i'm none the wiser![&:]

Having said that, a friend of ours who is particularly adept in all things stereo is popping over this weekend to have a look at the connections. The only thing I am worried about is the fact that you can't remove the front screen for security when you leave the car!

Never mind. If I can get anything concrete from our stereo chappy i'll be sure to whisk the information your way.

Been to the ICE shop and the adaptor lead isnt recommended to me as it ............

1 is a big lump of kit to hide as it has a big PCB in the middle of the wiring

1.5 And it may cook it ! due to the amp already installed

2 my new sys. has built in amps way better that the PSP system anyway (he said)

3 Recommended to have it hard wired in by unplugging/disableing the amp under bonnet, and using bayonnet conectors tap the wires back thro bulkhead to the HU outputs which then does away with the need to use the large odd shaped plug

4 This will then make the original becker HU slot back in no probs with a few snaps of the bayonnet connectors and original connectors.

Phew........

About £80 and 3 hours work he reconned

I have the 6 speaker amp PSP upgrade by the way [;)]

I fitted a Sony CDX MP70 player to my 1998 car.

My local ICE shop had no problem with supplying me with a conversion loom for the speaker connection.

Like you car mine is fitted with the sound pack ie: 6 speakers and amp.

But, my car is NOT fitted with the speed/phone gubbins.

For other owners, it really is a very simple task to swap the original Becker system and many of the standard release keys fit. Anybody with basic practical skills could do it within 20mins.

The cost of the loom was £40.

Rob, you're a star!

Many thanks for that - i'm going to go and convince Steve that we need to fit it SOON!

Thanks for that Rob,
The speed / vol. adjustment i think is standard ?
I have found these links to the Porsche adaptors, although there is another if fitting to a highish output system
Thank you for your enquiry. If you have the standard power ISO, but the speakers are run through mini ISO's then the PC9-408 will be required for your system. If the new unit is high powered, it may be better to purchase the PC9-410 which takes the audio to the new stereo's pre-outs. FROM AN EMAIL TO A SUPPLIER

I recently installed a SONY MEX-1HD with not too much difficulty. However, since putting it in the horn beeps once about 5 seconds after locking the car and the alarm also seems to go off all the time. Has anyone else had the same trouble? It's driving me mad and am tempted to put the original unit back in!!

PJ

If you reconnected the alarm wire to the headunit cage this 'may' be the problem. Car dependant of course ! What do you have ?
I was told by an opc that the alarm wires were mostly removed from the cage due to this happening, or alternatively, is the wire touching something ? I think it is a brown wire if i remember correctly coming from the left side of the radio hole.

Also if it is a boxster make sure that the centre console lid is closed, many people seem to fall foul of this, it may look closed but push it and see [;)]

Thanks Elliot.

It's a year 2000 Boxeter S. I can't remember if I reconnected the alarm, but I'm sure I connected everything that was there before! I might ask one of the UK OPC's (the one here is very small) about this point in case they have seen it before.

In that case then, did you fit it the sony into the porsche metal case in the slot ? Instead of removing and refitting it with the one that came with the sony ?
If you did then the wiring will / may still be attached to the casing and there is a little clear sticker / breaker on the original radio which IMO stops the alarm contact from to metal and when the tealeaf removes it it touches the metal and alarms.

I suggest you remove the HUnit and find the wire and disconnect it and test again making sure its clear from anything metal.
Mine was disconnected by the way [;)] on my 2000 Box. S

Good luck [;)]
