ORIGINAL: smartmove I am currently shopping for a used 2009 (or newer) Cayman S. I think I'm probably being a little fussy (as I have so far been unable to find an exact match) on the spec I want. Basically I want it to be either Silver, Grey or Silver in manual with PCM, PASM and Sports chrono. My question is how much realistically could I expect to get off the asking price on a used model at an OPC? I have seen a possible car (haven't travelled to see it yet) but it's up at £44k and my budget is really around £40k. I think it's unlikely I would get £4k off the deal?
You could be pleasantly surprised but best leave any negotiating to the back end of any given month when targets may just need one more sale to be met [;)]

I doubt you'd get £4k off £44k, maybe £2-2.5k All depends how long its been sat on the forecourt really. Your requirements shouldn't be that difficult to match - all depends what else is on your wish list. The dealer can retro fit the sports mode bit of sports chromno for about £650 - you won't get the wart on top of the dash but everything else is as a factory sports chrono option.

I put PASM down as a requirement due to general feeling on other forum posts I've seen with regards to the Cayman S on 19" wheels. I test drive a Boxster S on 19" wheels last week and this did not have PASM and to be honest I didnt think the ride was any worse than my current car (370Z) so maybe PASM is a nice to have rather than a deal breaker?

PS. What does limit the car's available to me is the fact I would definetely prefer to purchase the car from a OPC so I can get the 2 year extended warranty included and be sure the car is "standard".

yep i had 19 inch with no pasm -no probs. and i left it till sep30th and got 3k off-deadlines and targets etc

I popped into my local OPC yesterday and he said they've got virtually no Cayman stock, new or secondhand. He had a new black one in the showroom and a nice blue metallic 'S' demonstrator which he said he had probably just sold for £1k below list, but they wouldn't go any lower than that. Given that i'd only popped in to ask about oil consumption, having bought my car from them 4 months ago, I doubt he was trying to mislead me about supply and demand. So I don't think you'll get anything like £4k off at an OPC, but good luck and let us know how you get on!

Well, today I purchased a 2008 Cayman S Sport in Orange from an independent dealer. Very happy with the price I got, it came with a AA "Gold" 1 year warranty, hopefully won't need it. Car was just serviced by an OPC last week and given a clean bill of health. I pick her up tomorrow! The only thing I am not sure if I am keen on or not is the previous owner has tinted the rear lights, I a may try and get whatever they used as the tint off to get them back to stock.

Hi If your not able to get the rear lights back to what they should be, I have a set of left & right with bulbs that I took off my Cayman S Sport when I made them all red which looks better on a white car. I'm looking for £125 which would inc Postage or to Pick up in person it will be only £100 which is a bargain to you & both are in excellent order as I changed them just last September 2009. I can be contacted on 01206 797412 after 6.30pm if your intrusted & yes they don't look right tinted like they are as they should be red. Yours Truly Kevin. Ps I live in Colchester Essex.[:)]

Hi Kevin, I got the car this evening so haven't had a good look at the lights yet, I suspect it may be film in which case I can probably just remove it with the help of a hairdryer. I'll try this tomorrow. If I don't get anywhere I'll call you tomorrow night as I'll take your lights off you for £125 posted and then sell my tinted ones on. Many thanks.

Hi Kevin, I managed to remove the lights and get the tint film off (as you can see by the new pics) so don't need to replace the lights, thanks for the offer though :)

Hi Thanks for letting me know & for your information if your after a model of your Cayman S Sport schuco does a nice 1/43 scale model in orange. I will get you the model number & put it on the Forum but there was only 777 Models made world wide. Yours Truly Kevin. The Orange Cayman S Sport Model in 1/43 Scale Number ART - NR - 450473900 cost about £29.99 if you can find one as I said it was Limited Edition of 777 Models or you maybe able to find one on E - Bay, Good Luck. Kevin.

Haha, yeh, change of heart when I actually saw the car in the flesh. I never set out to buy an tango'd car that's for sure!

Hi everyone: I've also been trying hard to get a hold of a GenII Cayman. My main requirements are it has to be GenII and manual. Otherwise I'm flexible, although a meteor grey coulour would be nice! I have to admit: I've been on the lookout now for about 3 months and I'm really struggling these cars are a scarce commodity - so any help appreciated.

I wasn't looking as long as you but as soon as I saw the sport it was a no brainer to me :) Go view one, you never know! ha

The closest I got was that I had a deal with a guy: £36K for a GenII Cayman S, 6000 miles - then he backed out and sold it for £37K - absolutely gutted, missed out on a steal there. But never mind will find one soon hopefully [:)]
