Sorry folks, s/c 944 will not race

I' ve just had a letter from PCGB, to be able to run the car, its weight must be ballasted to 1490kg ( thats adding 269kg!, giving the car a power to weight of 4.3kg/bhp, but the regs state the power for the class is 3.5kg/bhp, this is to make it " fair for others in the class" ). It also states in the regs that spherical joints on the suspension are " not allowed" , but its OK for 911' s to do this and even get on the cover of Porsche Post!!!!

Paul ( one very pi55ed off PCGB member )

P.S. I can run in class 2, against GT3 cup cars, that' s fair.

Sorry to hear of your disappointment. Can you give us some more background and details. Facts rather than opinions.

I assume you are talking about the Open, but you don' t specifically say.

I' m sure there are many of us who would be willing to lend thier support.

That' s a real shame Paul. I and many others in the Titanic 944 Register and on Pistonheads had been following your Supercharger conversion with interest. I always thought that the Porsche Open mean' t exactly that, it was ' Open' and allowed highly modified cars [8D] It is also split into classes by power to weight ratio to even things up, which is why if your car complies with the 3.5kg/bhp then it should surely be allowed in that class [&:]

The ' fair for others in the class' comment is a bit of a laugh, have the organisers not seen the 935 replica that regularly laps the field [:-]

.......actually I' d really like to see your ' old' 944 take on the hugely expensive GT3 Cup cars [:D] I have no idea how it would pan out with their power and weight but at least you' d get in the race.

Reminds me of the time three years ago when the old 944 Turbos were on pole at Silverstone for the Porsche Cup (we won' t mention the actual result though [;)] )

A real shame - but yes if the cars are all on the track together, run it in class 2 we can then see how it goes against it' s true class 3 competitors. No silverware maybe but we would know!

Sorry to hear this Paul. It does not make sense...is that the final decision or is there a chance of appeal?

I would think a lot of the likely outcome would be down to other guys in your open (?) class.

If there is no chance of appeal,I guess it makes sense to show the Gt3 boys the way home.It seems a shame to have come this far and not develop the car further.

Good luck mate...Paul
