Sorry looking engine fan.....

Just spent the entire weekend playing with my 911 in the garage. I decided to dismantle a few bits off the engine for cleaning. One of the bigger bits was the fan which is (even after my attempts with metal polish) still looking rather sorry (pitted) for itself. I can't bring myself to put it back on the car in this condition but I'm not sure as to the best way of restoring it. Can you bead blast and then stove enamel or paint these fans or can they be polished back to their original finish? I'm not too sure what material its made out of but it doesn't look like alloy even though it is very light. Any advise as to what other members have done to their's would be appreciated. Thanks.
 
I had mine blasted with magnesium oxide particles, I then clear coated it with four coats of a hard varnish in the oven! It didn't get rid of the heaviest pittting but looked good. However after two years on the car it looks a tad grubby I think a powder coated finish is the way to go if the fan is heavily pitted. Don't go to thick or the fan will catch as ot rotates and chip of your newly applied paint

Use wet + dry on it , see results on my fan last year taken after about a 1-2hours work, only thing I did not do was to give it a clear coat of lacquer so will have to do it a gain this year

All three of those look really good and about 10 times better than mine currently does. Just one question, can you get the fan shroud off while the engines in the car? My shroud is now loose but doesn't seem to want to come clear as its catching on the crank pulley. If I'm going to get the fan powder coated I may as well get the shroud done as well, but I've certainly no plans to remove the engine to do this. Could somebody let me know if this is possible as the Heinz manual is not very detailed. Thanks.
