Sound Advice

Hello,
I am seeking advise regarding the Bose sound system and if it is worth adding to the spec on a new Boxster if I don’t have an iPhone. The fact that only apple play is compatible and I have an android phone, I am not sure it is worth the cost.

Not sure if its true of the current models - but BOSE previously has been all about the "output" of the sound - the AMP the SPEAKERS etc. - and not anything to do with the INPUT. So you could have had a bog standard cd player and radio with standard, or enhanced amps - up to and including BOSE. Or a PCM system with standard, or sound package plus, or BOSE.

If that's different these days then ignore - but I *think* the question you need to ask is "what's the in car "head unit" - and certainly in newer cars the PCM is a multi featured beast and I think I would want one, even if it didn't have android auto - it will have plenty of features linked to other car systems.

But, as to what speaker / amp combo - i have had 2 cars with the sound package plus ( which for those was an ASK amp/speakers ) and side by side I found them comparable with BOSE ( actually, better in some ways )

I am not a great lover of in car music, never have been and to be honest the upgraded system plus I had in my previous 981 Cayman was more than adequate for me.

However, when I came to spec up my 992 I chose to upgrade to Bose mainly for the 'desirability' factor when I come to sell it. Maybe that is something to consider.

The more I think about it the more I think I will go ahead and order the Bose. The resale value is not of massive interest as I intend keeping it a while. whispers are abound that Android play is in the pipe line but not confirmed yet. Just my luck.
