Sound system advice for a 993

I have a 993 c4s and had to change the stereo head unit as the old one stopped working (it had a Sony after market stereo when I bought it). I had a Pioneer fitted but the sound has never been nearly the same as it was. The people who changed it said it was because of the old amp interfering with a more sophisticated head unit. I'm thinking about changing it again but wondered if anyone had any advice on what to get that works with the existing amp.
Many Thanks

Didn't think they had amps unless you had a higher spec system.
Changed my head unit with no issues and the headunit is the amp

Most UK cars had aftermarket stereos due to Porsche pricing policies at the time. The factory supplied speaker system used Nokia speakers, not renowned for their audiophile qualities.

If you want good sound with original looks, Beckers are good, you can even get a Porsche Classic version if you suffer an overload of money vs sense ..

The flat six is your best entertainment !

cheers, Maurice

I do have a spare Sony head unit and cd changer in full working order that came with my 993 when I bought it in 2003. Last year I replaced it with a Becker unit. I can send photos if you are interested.

the amp is usually under the drivers seat and you’ll probably find that the new radio has a higher output now. So you can remove the amp and use pass through cables to link the new head unit direct to the speakers. That also saves weight!
I used a Continental head unit with a Porsche sticker. Looks great and had blue tooth as well as micro usb and phone connection via a Sony remote control.
I also put a thin sub woofer under the passenger seat so a bit more bass and a nice feeling for the passengers;)

Thanks all for the responses. I think get rid of the old amp in that case, to be fair the radio guy did say that; but he also suggested taking a saw to the dash to fit a 12" screen for satnav....

Thanks again all.
