Soundproofing for turbo cabriolet

Hi all. Just bought a very late model 944 turbo cab (on a K plate). Does anyone know if there should be underbonnet sound-proofing, mine doesn't have it and my PET cd doesn't seem to list it, or I can't easily find it.

Soundproofing ?

If you refer to the foam stuck under the bonnet it disappeared for the 1987 model year, IIRC.

Mines a lateish '87 model and has the foam so it must have been a really late '87 or after. However i'm not sure if it is that effective. My car is not noticably quieter than any other 944. I think all 944's noisy at speed copared with modern cars. I know from a work collegue who has a Austin Healy 300 that you can buy modern under-carpet heat and sound insulation that is very thin and very effective. He reckons it has worked a treat on his Healy.

I imagine it was more for soundproofing the engine sound externally than any difference in the car. How much noise can get into the cabin through the top of the bonnet?

In a 944 cab you have a lot more places to create noise than the engine.

Hey welcome fellow turbo cab owner - one of the few - though quite how many are still out there seems unknown.

My experience is that generally speaking the cab top down is good news as it helps you hear what going on/wrong[] both under the bonnet and elsewhere.

All the best

Cliff.
