Sourcing a Spare Key/Cost

Hi All,

Quite an urgent question.

Is it easy to order a complete spare key for a 1999 996 carrera 4 from a porsche main dealer and how much could I expect to pay - including radio coding. Do they come in single colour or varying colour/styles?

I would really appreciate a quick response as spare key which was supposed to be with car has been misplaced by dealer....

Thanks,

Steve

Yes you can. At the same time you'll probably want to get the "misplaced" key disabled so that it will no longer deactivate the alarm.

Not sure of cost... Richard will probably advise in a minute [:D]

Search is your friend :)

from my posting of 28/10/2007 here ... http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=329242&mpage=1

the answer is 183.34 + VAT if you're a pcgb member.

HTH,
Martin.

Thanks for your help everyone.

Stupid question but how can I get the 'misplaced' key deactivated?

Any opinions regarding approaching this lost key from a car purchase perspective when it appears original spare key is either still with garage / previous owner (who the garage are still in contact with)....

Am thinking contacting previous seller directly might be best to chase this key.

Thanks,

Steve

When they code the new remote and immobiliser transponder to the car, they can delete any keys that are not in your posession from the alarm control module. Then the key blade of the lost key would still work to open the doors, but the car would not start. A radio remote key head and key is about £140+VAT+coding.

Edit: As a lower-cost option, you can get a non-remote "Service Key" for about £60+coding. It just has a small key head containing the transponder pill for the immobiliser. If you are the only one using the car, then it might be worth considering.
