I am out in hired GT3 Cup tomorrow( cough, cough). Remember Tom D who took all the flack when he brought his kettle into our F1 pits?

Out with Michael in another GT3 Cup on Sunday( also shared our F1 pits). Well I need to see what I am up against in the Race section!

Some nice RSRs on track.

Bad day today--loads of rain. Could only manage a few laps. Saturday weather should be good... Will go out hunting GT3 Cups and their Scottish passenger [;)]

Sunny day and lots of action. GT2 RSR was something to behold. It could shift too. Not sure how my 265bhp Cup lives with these guys. It looks terrifying from the pit wall.
Some Belgium took me on a none too hot lap in his old 993 Cup. Moaned about understeer due to the weight. We were both within 1kg of each other so I said the car must have been well balanced!

The slicks really do feel planted so must swap my Cups for some in Sept.

Scottish ballast is the cure to trail braking oversteer [:D][:D][:D]

Good weather today, not too many people on the track and overall few casualties.

Good to hear from the few survivors of the usual suspects.

Here´s a pic of 2009, the hobby driver in jeans is fourth on the grid for tomorrow´s Supercup race in Spain ... good chance for a podium.

Any 964 RS or Cup out there?

Not many 964 or 993. Feels like they have retired, at least from this event. Many many 996-7 GT3 RSs Cups and RSRs. The organisers have introduced a new category ("classic") for pre-964 cars. In my view they should generalise it to "air-cooled.". Still a great event/Porsche fest.

That's an interesting observation Phil , it is consistent with the general pattern on UK trackdays , where the Porsche of choice is the GT3 and its RS variants . I dont see this trend reversing itself back to how things were say 4-5 years ago.

With regards to air-cooled RS's , the bulk of them will be pampered and polished , a minority will be raced and rallied , and I guess that the custodians of the cars will not want to write them off on something as frivolous as a trackday where the laws of roulette apply , after all there are plenty of kettles available at a fair price for that [:D]

Well tractor drivers. I think it is time to ship them to a museum!

The 997 Cup is a superb machine and quite staggering the difference between the old Belgium driven tractor to this state of the art machine.

It was the grip and G force you could generate through the corners. It really was on rails.

Needless to say at 45K Euro this is the way to go with 64 RS values going over 70K Euro.

Tom loved the sequential box but costs ££££££££££ to maintain.

He hired the Cup for 1250 euro per hour so nothing to worry about if it breaks. If you crash it then lots to worry about!

Insurance is extra!

2.35s...........:O)

I felt sick when I got out of the car!

OT, part of the problem with tracking the RS is the insurance excess.....when it gets up to 5 figures, it can be an eye opener and takes some of the fun out of it...certainly from my point of view!

Where as £3k buys you a track MX5 or E36, if you have a bad day, you can just get the bus home!

Worth thinking about something like this!

I could rent it out at £1250 an hour!

If you flogged the 64RS then there would be money left for the gearbox rebuilds every 25 hours.

Absolutely 100% true, problem is, its just not the same. Emotion is an odd thing, banging around circuit in a E36, MX5 or Caterham is great, but doesnt feel like an RS.
