Both the same, and cracks on the back too.

Trivial compared to the diff issue.......more on that later this week, after RPM have it apart. Pity it stopped play!

Is this called a Double Limp Wrist pose? [;)][8D][8D][:D]

Those spacers don't look too clever....[]

Update - looks ike Minty needs new drive shafts - of course an RS specific part, so now on order from germany, diff seems OK. Which is good.

Now looking for spacers anyone have favourites?

wish I had a copy of the facebook post i sent you[:D] FWIW i would just change the cv joints unless you've stripped the splines on the shafts. I have found just cleaning and re-greasing can sort such noises out ! Mind you just changing the shafts is a lot less work !

Sorry Laurence! Not checked it for a couple of days. Will check tonight. Will also post the pic of the wear on the CV joints. Dont think grease is going to fix this one. And knowing that the car is probably on original drive shafts, I fancy putting whole new drive shafts, as opposed to replacing just the joints (which I think you can do).

I'm keen to get the car to a reliable state, so all new drive shafts seems like a good idea. I've got the garage to fit a set of C2 drive shafts and drive the car to confirm the noise stops. I want to confirm we know it was definately the drive shafts. They've retested the Diff and its still fine, but I want to be sure we've got the root cause identified before I take the car back.

if there is significant wear on the cages to the point you see the hardening worn off and there are flat spots on the ball bearings , then it's prudent to change the CV's. Unless the splines are worn or twisted the shafts should live another day. But no doubt changing the lot is a sleep easy option. And you wont get covered in grease either.[:D]

To be fair, on a car that may have had a hard life on track, if you can afford it, you may as well change the drive shafts, that way you should hopefully be able to cross that job off of the list, rather than have to go back and replace at a later date...

Laurence, what are you doing on here?...Who let you out of the garage? ....Shouldn't you be in there rebuilding an engine? [:D]

I would replace with new OPC items. I got the terminal ticking sound then no drive on the way to Spa.

It was under £400 for a drive shaft and £75 to fit.

Cost gone up a little, but not too much. They are checking the Diff again, I've paid to have C2 items fitted to check the noise is definitely the drive shafts, which they have now done. Then they'll redo the Geo and corner weights post oulton to get that sorted.

Then I'll book another shakedown day to ensure its all good. It will be fantastic when its sorted, just taking longer than expected.

Hugh... when I had the gearbox fully rebuilt, surely he looked at the diff?

h new bearings will do the job fine, everything else is way over engineered.
On the gt2 etc race cars,we just put fresh bearings,as did the company who overhauled them for racers.
Re spacers, why dont you put longer wheels studs in as per early rsr etc, then just run them through the spacers, much more reliable.
Porsche made some very nice spacers that fitted on the 930 slant nose turbos etc also, black anodized etc

Paul, I've already sunk the money, and although you are probably right, it gives peace of mind. As I dont use the car much, its frustrating and expensive when it doesnt run. Perhaps spent more than I need to here, but too late to change.

Good view on the spacers.............Mine do look like they've cracked around the second set of studs, so maybe that is the right way to go? I actually need to check if the current studs are long enough, as they currently protrude into the mouldings around the lug holes. I'll do some research.
