Spacers

Hi,
Just trying to get my head around fitting spacers.
If you install say a 25mm spacer, surely the studs on the car need to be less than 25mm in length or else they would pretude the spacer and hit the wheel?

Amo,

There are several possibilities here. Firstly, many spacers have recessed sockets so the wheel studs DON'T protrude. Also, SOME wheels have recesses between the stud holes to accomodate protruding spacer studs.

It's usually a bit of a trade-off between the two solutions - obviously, the thinner spacers have less of a recess.

This is a very important aspect to check when you are fitting spacers, making sure that the wheel and spacer meet snugly at the central flange.

Regards

Dave

While the stud may be 25mm, a lot less than 25mm protrudes from the hub - more like 12-15mm.

No, they are 25mm long but have to go thru the hub so only about 15mm protrudes outside the outer face of the hub. The remaining 10mm is embedded in the hub, if that helps to visualise it. The part of the stud you can see is only about 15mm.
