Spacesaver wheel & tyre

ORIGINAL: Alex Postan

Has anyone got a picture of a spacesaver wheel and jack as used on a Boxster?

I have some photos. Hope I can stick them on here as I always have trouble trying to do it.

Note: looks like the site won't let me post 2 posts together.

I'd be interested in a pic of it all in the front boot - just to see what space is left.

I'm assuming the pic is of the 987 option spare wheel? I've heard use of 986 space savers?

Chris

You might also want to think about what you would do if you ever had to use it as I'm led to believe a road wheel and tyre will not fit in the 987 boot. A 17" rear with the air out will just go in a 986 boot.

Good point John - guess I'm curious more than seriously thinking of buying a spacesaver.

Wife's car has 19" wheels - only place they can be carried is on the passenger seat.

No. It is a pic of my 986 space saver wheel and jack as requested by Alex Postan. I will take pics of the space in the boot with and without the spacesaver wheel installed.

I was told by PCGB Technical the space saver from a 986 won't fit the wheel hub on a 987. They are not the same at all and therefore a 986 space saver is not an option for us 987 girlies [:D]

Many thanks! Just what I wanted.
I am thinking about buying one for my Cayman for times when I might be on my travels.....

Possibly something to do with different brake calipers and offsets on wheels [;)]

Looks like all the keen Boxster members are on line this morning but here are my additional pics to help you anyway. 1st pic shows the trunk without the wheel giving a 19 inches between the bulkhead and nose. Next one, (when the web site allows!) will be of the space with the wheel installed giving 15 1/2 inches. BUT remember, the 987 has a different confuguration in the trunk so the dimensions will not strictly apply to the Caymen or the 987.

Interestingly, the Porsche PET Parts system shows most of the Discs and Calipers having the same part numbers across the 986/987

So I think John's comment sums it up pretty much perfectly [;)]

Just asked them again why you can't use the 986 Space Saver on a 987 and the answer was "There is a seperate part number for a space saver for the 987 and therefore it is safe to assume there is a technical reason for this" [:'(] He couldn't tell me what that exact differences were so maybe it's just another way of relieving the customer of his money [:D]

Now I am thinking like JCB [:)]

I think that I need to prevail upon my neighbour and actually try to fit his 986 spare onto and into my waterproof boxster.
