Just looking at an idea we've mentioned before, just wondered if anyone has used scenic car tours or have any suggestions on this trip?
Its something that I've been thinking of booking or putting something similar together..

Not used or been on any of these types of tours (yet!!), but another suggestion to speak with is:- [link]http://www.europeandrivingtours.co.uk[/link] No connection but Alison and Mark organised R4's Dambuster trip a couple of years ago which went very smoothly and was enjoyed by those that went on it, and they are also organising R4's trip to Classic Le Mans and Champagne country in 2016 which I am doing.

Looks very well priced at 1300 for two people. I took the wife and or 3 and 5 year old from UK to Portugal and back in the 997 in August. We went down the west side of France and back up through the Pyrenees...... Awesome scenery and plenty of places to stop over on the way. We really like just packing a bag and heading off with not much in the way off a planned route, just an idea of where we would like to stop and see. Hotels are booked on the fly one day in advance or even on the morning. Booking.com always works for us.

Rod, Mark and Alison organised the 997 big tour to Monaco a few years ago https://www.porscheclubgb.com/forum/tm.asp?m=682987 see the link for how much fun we had. I was out with Mark last week discussing something similar, but I know he's looking at 2016 for something along these lines. I'd happily book with them is times and the trip was available. Chris, I don't know where you see £1300 for two people! it says £1499 per person on my browser!! I'm thinking of doing what you say though, booking.com and a packed bag...

Hi GaryW I've been fortunate enough to have been around Europe quite a lot these last lot of years. From Scandinavia in the north down to Morocco in north Africa, and right across as far east as Romania. European travel is straight forward, with all levels of accomodation easily bookable same day or one day in advance, just as angusc says. I normally choose the ultimate destination in advance, perhaps a particular event taking place along the route but how I get to the final destination is pretty much decided each evening over a cold beer, a map and Booking.com on the iPad. Exactly like angusc does. If it's your first time heading to Europe, the organised group tour can give that reassurance needed to take the stress out of the first trip, meaning you get to enjoy yourself rather as opposed to perhaps feeling a bit out of your depth, but after that first group tour I bet you decide to go back and do another trip by yourself. Either way, be it group tour or self guided, you can't go wrong. Good accommodation, good food and great roads are easy to come by, especially in the Pyrennees. A good tour company will give you a checklist to prepare the car, yourself, what to pack, what paperwork and so on. If you decide to go on your own and want any advice with stuff like that I would be happy to share what I've learnt. Whatever you decide, I look forward to hearing about your travels. PS. Despite travelling so much on my own, that tour does look really good though.. and September suits me well. I might consider that group trip myself this year instead of doing my own thing!

Thanks for the response David. Having organised possibly 15 + trip into Europe I've had my fare share of travel [:D] Having never done the Pyrenees I just wonder what it offers in comparison to last year Norway trip, Switzerland or the South of France.. I've sorted a route and it looks more of an excellent driving type trip rather than the major scenic views of some recent ones. Sadly September if a definite no for me, but June does look like an interesting option. Having never used the company I just though I'd ask if anyone had, EDT would be my first port of call but they currently don't have anything in that area within their schedule. When using booking.com, remember to book via quidco as they have cashback on the purchase [;)]

If that's June 2015, sadly for us [:(]we've now made alternative holiday arrangements. However, the roads are great, enjoy! David & Carole

where you off to this year David? anywhere nice I am looking at this year, last minute but It may be 2016 depending on how my timings go..

looks like another good reason to go in June! Santander welcoming supercars to the city with runs through the town etc.. http://superdeportivoscantabria.es/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/2015-SDC-Program.pdf

Check out the road N-260 from near Andorra to near Jaca. Do it east to west so the sun isn't a problem. Google 'Biking roads' - bikers always seem to find the most interesting roads. (I did seventeen European countries last year (one on Silverwing, sixteen in Boxster. Hotels all booked using booking.com and routes planned by myself). (8½ thousand miles in the Boxster). If I can make a suggestion, ferry from Bilbao or Santander after doing the Pyrenees and then going on to the Picos de Europa for more mountains and twisty roads. Riano and Cain are must do places. Use Google Earth Street View to go from Potes, over the San Glorio Pass, you can turn off the road at Portilla de la Reina to go to Cain. Then return to PdeR to go to Riano. Need any maps I have most of Europe scanned at various scales so a laptop or a tablet is all you need to view them. Example - https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/89523430/0215h30.jpg Cheers,

Cheers Fred, The East to West is great advice, I've sorted a route which I'm pleased to say includes many of the places mentioned. The event is over 4 days but looks like it could be worth while.. and something very different.

Good grief Fred !! What countries did you visit - or would it be easier to say which ones you didn't [:D]

Tom I have emailed one of the organisers as they are looking at doing a convoy down to the event in Spain, although I have promised to take Jo to La Rochelle at some point in the future. I felt part of enjoying these cars is to be able to attend events that are a bit extra/special. I'd stay on in Spain for the following week and enjoy the route back [:)] I've also just been invited to Scotland on an event that has had some very special doors opened up to them including a runway drive [:D] - August time. I will speak to our esteemed leader at the SW drive about these events but appreciate that they are busy with the SW currently.

Without wishing to hi-jack the thread. Here is the list. In order of appearance - Southern Ireland, Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Czech Republic, Austria, Hungary, Slovakia, Romania, Croatia, Italy, Slovenia, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, France, Luxembourg, Belgium. Cheers,

Hello from Santander. Sadly it's only 37 degrees here today but maybe rain tomorrow 😞 As always a great response to sports cars in France and even more so from the Spanish so far - although the Seats do seem not likking to be over taken. Certainly worth a trip in the future. Garyw
