Spare Key lost Programming?

I have not used the spare key on the 997 for a few years. Tried to use at weekend battery flat, replaced battery on fob. Red Light works ok, but car will not unlock.

Has the key fob lost its connectivity to the car???

Any thoughts

If you haven't used the car in a few days it will have gone into sleep mode and you'll need to use the key in the lock to wake it up first before the fob will function again. Try that first

If you have a flat key battery then it can mean the key will need Reprogramming by OPC. Also if when you change the key battery and you take longer than about 30 seconds to fit the new battery a key reprogram will also be needed. (Which is how I found all this out although on a Boxster not a 997).

I often don't use a key to open car for in excess of 7 days (winter), the point at which (I think) it enters sleep mode. In almost 4 years of ownership, I've not yet replaced key fob batteries, but I suspect OPC service may have done so. I'm not sure whether I now remember how the exit sleep mode with the fob works, but it just seems to come to life after a few presses of the open button and trying the door handle. Crude I know...

The car wakes up simply by lifting the door handle. No need to unlock with the key. However, if the fob battery is flat that isn't much help! The link I posted above explains how to re sync the key if it's battery has died.

That's worth knowing, since once in sleep mode I've been unlocking with the key and then disarming with the fob before opening the door since 1999!
