Spare Wheel - Deflation

Anyone know how to deflate a 944t space saver - the red alloy type rim with tyre which collapses back down?

I had a puncture on my 1989 car with previously unused spare and am finding it really difficult to deflate the spare to fit in the wheel well again.

BTW, driving on the Spare is an education.........at 50mph its all over the place.

Any suggestions gratefully received

I'm Glad this question has arisen.. few weeks ago I asked the Question about the odd shape of My Saver Wheel..and was Informed that they're Difficult let down after Inflation..and that Driving was "Eventful"....
I'm Now going to swap the saver for Proper wheel!

You could try buying one of those ratcheting luggage straps and see if it will collapse the wheel. Take the valve core out first, and I guess then check that the sidewall tucks in evenly.

Thats what I did.

Jeez George they are only meant for 25mph get you to the nearest garage. The circumference is probably completly different to your other wheels especially if they are not original ones.

You do nothing but remove the valve completely and leave it for a couple of days. It will shrink back but not quite all the way.

Yes, it's a pain to get it back to its original shape as the edges of the tyre on the rim side do not get back completely on the edge of the rim - sorry it this doesn't make sense, not easy to explain it with words [&:]

Yes as others have said take the centre of the valve out and leave it for a couple of weeks, I thought they were good for 50 as well, not nice with a 9" rear one side and the SS the other though.

Did all the ratchet strap stuff, still difficult to refit the Carpet over it. Will try removing the valve for a few days.
Just on the circumference comment, its Ok and needs to be, or the LSD would be destroyed.
thanks for replies

the only way to get it the same size is to suck the air out. Christ knows how you're supposed to do that though.
Good luck.
