Spare wheel...in or out?

When doing track days, do most people remove the spare wheel on the basis of it adding weight, or does it act as a useful tool in getting weight onto the front end during turn in?

Plus it's good to have a bit more weight at the front.

I have pix of them in Cup Cars, so if it's good enough for them......

That surprises me Melv that the cup cars had them. Always thought that race cars never carried them...but like you say...if its good enough for them!!!

When I got mine in 1992 there was no spare wheel in there (original factory Cup car) and Porsche engineer Roland Kußmaul told me that they didn´t have the spare wheel in. I tried both ways, TBH I didn´t feel a significant difference....

There was post on Rennlist by German factery engineer who said they were not part of the crash/safety.
Sorry i dont have a link

I have always been led to believe that it is part of the 'deformable structure.'

I recall adrian streather telling me it was part of the crash tests. either way it makes sense to have the spare wheel in. it makes the front box a lot stronger - the wings won't save anything! - and for the sake of a few kilo's worth it I think.
