Spare wheel inflator

Mine's a little black box about 6x8.

I've never seen a tyre inflate so fast as when i put it to use on a flat....impressive for such a small thing! [&:]

I didnt even know i had one till this evening but im not keen on the colapsable tyre so i might get the normal tyre off my old 944 put on the alloy rim so it permantly inflated !!

I've never seen it explode an airbed so quickly either (as our old Register Secretary discovered whilst distracted by beer at Brands Hatch [:D])

Does your spare have air in it now? There are two types - normal spares and collapsible ones on a red spacesaver rim.

Here ya go, its designed to fit inside the collapsible spare wheel rim.

Looks nothing like mine, I will check because I am sure it had a Porsche number on it. Mine is a similar size and shape box but you just pop the top open and pull out the leads. The pump is fixed in the box and the lid is on the small face of the box i.e. the top end.

Slightly related (not so off topic from me for a change!) but have any of you guys used the spare? I had to a couple of years back and getting the air out afterwards to collapse the tyre was a real PITA. The first time I put it back in the car I couldn't get the boot carpet down and had to have a go squezing the air out again.

Mine came with the original (as per photo) and as far as I am concerned it is the OEM fitted. Does yours fit the inner spare wheel ie:interference fit on all corners inside the rim??

I have inflated my run flat and deflated it but you will need to leave it for a day or so for the rubber to properly relax or it is too big for the boot carpet `hump` to settle down.

RE: the spare I think that is what I did wrong. It seems fully collapsed now but you are right even after seemingly squezing all the air it it is still too big.

RE: the compressor, yes I have seen the one in the picture in the flesh and it looks the same size. It works brilliantly well but thank god I have only needed to use it once after I ripped a tyre sidewall on some debris on the inside of a corner. ISTR it was part of somebodies exhaust just left there poking out from the kerb. Lucky I was only 2 miles from home since I could change on to the spare outside my house, phew.

Well, that's nothing like mine. And I bought it for £20 from a guy who'd sold his 944. And then E-bayed the compressor, luggage blind, handbook, tool kit, books, magazines and gawd knows what else....[&:]

So. What is the 8x6" compressor with a Porsche brand on it that I bought? Incredibly good, but if it's not concourse then I don't want it! [:D][:D][:D]

Mine hasn't got the collapsable spare so havn't got one, though with the lowered suspension I can't get my jack under the car with all tyres inflated let alone with one deflated, and my spare wheel wont fit over my brakes so i'm carrying all that dead weight around for nothing at the moment. I might ditch it all for a couple of those expanding foam inflator cans as a get me home measure.

I used Paul's at the Bedford track day and the original Porsche one works pretty well.

Collapsible spare cars certainly had the one I pictured in an earlier post as it was designed to fit exactly inside the collapsible wheel rim. In cars fitted with a proper wheel there may have been a different type spec`d??

How many Porsche compressor types were there fitted to 944`s (and 924`s??) ?
